As it once was ...

Is it true that the taste of everything changes? .. or is it our sense of taste? .. it is really strange how this happens ..

I remember as I was groing up .. I used to wake up to the loud sounds of a million bird .. I open up the window and sun beams were so fresh and warm, you can almost touch them .. the smell of crisp grass in the summer , and the smell of wet asphalt in winter .. suddenly, all of this has gone !!

You can barely feel this anymore .. I'm not sure whether it's taste has faded just for me, or it's a global issue? .. Is it the rush of the modern life we're going through? or is it me who grew older, and my senses worn out? .. what about the new generation .. are these kids having the same feelings we had about the surroundings, or is it just gone for everyone .. ?

Even time flies faster now .. maybe it's just the never ending race of today's life that make all of us loose track of time .. wouldn't you just pay anything for those old days to get them back?? .. Frankly, I would ...

.... it makes you wonder

Day after day living in my beautiful country, I get to explore the unusual nature of our people .. it's always astonishing to observe and try to understand it .. sometimes it's even sad ..

Something that would make your really wonder is the amount of appraises received on our latest match against football world champions, Brazil.

Like every similar football event we work our way to festivities, in the streets and all over the media .. I understand it's big to play that good against Brazilian team, but what surprises me is how we celebrate our football victories (and even now just nicely played matches !!) with songs of victory that goes back to our October '73 win, whereas -ironically- after 36 years of this win over Isreal we are selling them Egypt's natural gas with less than it's cost price (whose winning now?) in one of the most controversial business deals throughout our modern history- yet we also celebrate October's win with lots of military propaganda and huge media coverage every year (using the same songs !!) ... schizophrenia? maybe ..

I'm not sure whether the media is the one that exaggarates and influnce the people to act this way, or if it's the other way around .. in both cases it' an "Egyptian" fault .. probably something we inherited from our great grand fathers the Pharouhs, who built magnificent temples that stood up to this day, just to tell the world of their greatness .. the only difference here: we are acting with the same pattren .. but unlike us, they REALLY had something to be proud of ..

Football can be something to make a nation happy for a day, but it shouldn't be the only thing that makes a nation happy .. It really makes me sad ..
